Celebration of Indonesia – Free Cultural Night

Do you want to give your child an opportunity to enhance their understanding of Indonesian history and culture? This Saturday 12th Sept, the Melbourne Town Hall is showcasing an Indonesian cultural night to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

Watch a glimpse of Indonesian history in this cultural night with dances, drama mixed with modern and traditional Indonesian Music.

Up to 200 talented Indonesian performers and artist from various Indonesian cultural groups in Melbourne have joined together to create the most memorable cultural display you have ever seen in Melbourne.

Beruang Coklat – Brown Bear

This term in Indonesian, students in the Prep classes have been studying the popular story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?’ (Beruang Coklat, Beruang Coklat, Melihat apa?) Students are enjoying reading the story in Indonesian and using puppets to play the role of the different characters. In class they have been busy making their own version of the story which they will bring home in the next few weeks.

Orangutans

This week in Indonesian, to coincide with World Orangutan Day on 19th August, students in Years 3-6 studied the Orangutan. They watched a short documentary and discussed the issues that demand for palm oil has caused the orangutan population in Indonesia.

The Sumatran Rhinoceros

This week in Indonesian, students in Years 3-6 have been studying the Sumatran Rhinoceros (Badak Sumatra).

Komodo Dragon – Land of Dragons

Students in Years 3-6 will be studying various native Indonesian Animals over the coming weeks.
